An “outdoor escape room” activity was proposed, in which participants had to find and photograph four points that answered the following dilemmas:

1. The square named after an important personality in the history of Portugal. (Vasco da Gama square).

2. An iconic building, overlooking one of the largest seaports in Europe, and where you can listen to music. (Elbphilharmonie. It is one of the largest and most acoustically advanced concert halls in the world).

3. Emblematic building that was one of the only buildings not to be completely destroyed in the Second World War, and which for a long time was the tallest building in Europe. (Church of S. Nicolau).

4. Place where we can find a giant Philips advertisement. (Hauptbahnhof, Hamburg’s central train and metro station. The Hauptbahnhof is a landmark of the city with its “lifetime” Phillips advertising neon).

Before the activity, students were given a list of possible places to visit, in order to facilitate the answer to this challenge: Hamburg Central Station; Mönckebergstrasse, one of the main avenues; Hauptkirche; St. Jacobi; Santiago Church; Hauptkirche St. Petri, church of St. Peter; the Artificial lake; Rathaus; Port of Hamburg; Fischmarkt in St.Pauli; Church of S. Nicolau; Vasco da Gama Square; and Reeperbahn, which is a central entertainment street.

The group successfully completed the proposed challenge and also had the privilege of experiencing the true summer of this area of Germany, where it suddenly passes, on a very hot day, to periods of intense and inclement rain. But when you work as a team, and everyone is willing to listen to each other’s opinions, everything becomes easier.

The city is huge and full of history and stories.

Once again, a well-deserved thank you to our friends at the Jugendtreff Beelen, who gave us valuable tips, and especially to the tireless Martin, your manager, always present and available, even from a distance.

The group from Germany left early towards Hamburg, Germany’s second most populous city, to discover what it has to offer.
