There are six of us volunteers from Germany, Italy, France and Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We spent our first few days of this volunteering programme at AETA preparing the workshops we were going to run with the classes. We were given complete freedom to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, during Empathy and Welcome Week, we supported pupils in Years 5 to 9 with a range of very useful workshops that we organised especially for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the Year 5 pupils, we organised a \u2018Peddy Paper\u2019 to help them get to know the school whilst searching for stars and clues that showed them where to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Year 6, we introduced the pupils to a healthy lifestyle. Staying true to the theme, we invited them to a lesson packed with different types of sport and healthy eating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As biology, chemistry and physics become more important subjects in Year 7, we devised three different experiments to spark the pupils\u2019 curiosity about these natural sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 8 pupils had to be much more creative. We asked them to create short films on important and meaningful topics, such as bullying, social media, teamwork and empathy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the older pupils in Year 9, we devised a rather unusual team-building activity. We placed them in an escape room that we had built ourselves, which they had to solve together in order to escape. The Year 9 teaching team tested this activity, and so we were also able to share some enjoyable moments with the teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the pupils took part very well in our activities and, with great patience, listened to us speaking English, as some of us did not speak Portuguese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We organised this whole project with the help of the European Solidarity Corps, a Europe-wide programme that helps us travel to different countries, explore new cultures and make wonderful new friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
