Na próxima semana, uma comitiva do nosso Agrupamento parte rumo à Alemanha para uma nova etapa do projeto Erasmus+ “She STEMs the future – Gender Equality through STEM Education”. A mobilidade terá lugar na Gemeinschaftsschule Althengstett, onde alunos e docentes de vários países se reunirão para partilhar conhecimentos e estratégias que visam promover a igualdade de género nas áreas das ciências e tecnologias.
Um dos momentos desta mobilidade será o workshop “Best Practices for Gender-Inclusive STEM Activities”. Para este desafio, as nossas alunas têm-se preparado intensamente sob a orientação da Professora Maria Castro, docente de Física e Química.
O foco da preparação foi um desafio prático de engenharia ambiental: a criação de um “filter system” (sistema de filtragem) funcional. Utilizando apenas recursos limitados e rudimentares — como tecido, areia e carvão — as alunas foram desafiadas a purificar água “suja”, replicando o que poderia ser uma solução de emergência em cenários de crise hídrica. Esta atividade permitiu às alunas não só aplicar conceitos de separação de misturas, mas também desenvolver competências de liderança e resolução de problemas. No projeto “She STEMs the Future”, o objetivo é claro: demonstrar que o talento científico não tem género e que as raparigas têm um papel fundamental na construção de soluções sustentáveis para o planeta.
Em Althengstett, as nossas alunas terão a oportunidade de apresentar este projeto, comparando resultados com colegas europeus e discutindo como a ciência pode ser mais inclusiva e motivadora para todos.
Esta mobilidade reforça a nossa visão de uma educação que vai além da sala de aula. Ao participarem nestas experiências internacionais, as nossas alunas regressarão com horizontes alargados, maior confiança nas suas capacidades STEM e uma consciência renovada sobre a importância da cidadania europeia e da igualdade de oportunidades.
Heading Out to Germany: The “She STEMs the Future” Project Bets on Innovation and Inclusion
Next week, a delegation from our School Group will depart for Germany for the next stage of the Erasmus+ project, “She STEMs the Future – Gender Equality through STEM Education”. The mobility will take place at Gemeinschaftsschule Althengstett, where students and teachers from several countries will gather to share knowledge and strategies aimed at promoting gender equality within the fields of science and technology.
One of the highlights of this trip will be the workshop “Best Practices for Gender-Inclusive STEM Activities”. To prepare for this challenge, our students have been working intensively under the guidance of Professor Maria Castro, our Physics and Chemistry teacher.
The focus of their preparation was a practical environmental engineering challenge: the creation of a functional “filter system”. Using only limited and rudimentary resources—such as cloth, sand, and charcoal—the students were tasked with purifying “dirty” water, replicating a potential emergency solution for water crisis scenarios. This activity allowed the students not only to apply concepts of mixture separation but also to develop leadership and problem-solving skills. Within the “She STEMs the Future” project, the objective is clear: to demonstrate that scientific talent has no gender and that girls play a fundamental role in building sustainable solutions for the planet.
In Althengstett, our students will have the opportunity to present this project, comparing their results with European peers and discussing how science can become more inclusive and motivating for everyone.
This mobility reinforces our vision of an education that goes far beyond the classroom. By participating in these international experiences, our students will return with broader horizons, greater confidence in their STEM abilities, and a renewed awareness of the importance of European citizenship and equal opportunities.
